Objective Stable continental margins fall into two distinct categories: those resulting from the divergence of two plates, the best studied; and those resulting from the sliding of two plates along a transform fault, which is relatively unknown to date. The structural study of the margin in northern Mozambique allows: to observe a margin in the first stages of evolution, when the two continental lithospheres remain in contact along a transforming direction (Davie chain); to study the subsequent remobilization it has undergone during the different phases of opening of the Indian Ocean. This programme is a thematic extension of the research on sliding margins undertaken by the Continental Margin Study Group west of Spitsbergen and in the Gulf of Guinea.
