Objective The KAIKO cruise is the first part of a Franco-Japanese cooperation program; the second part is a diving cruise with the submersible Nautile (-6,000m). The objective of KAIKO is the study of the subduction zone around Japan. This third leg is devoted to the study of the transition between the Japan Trench and the Kuril Trench (34N to 42N -140E to 146E).
