Objective Seasonal and interannual monitoring of the heat content, surface salinity, hydrology and circulation between Tasmania and Adelie Land. The programme began in 1992. The dates of the crossings between Hobart and Dumont d'Urville were (in 3 round trips): from 22/10/2008 to 13/11/2008 (Hobart-Hobart), from 13/12/2008 to 29/12/2008 (Hobart-Hobart) and from 19/02/2009 to 05/03/2009 (Hobart-Hobart). SURVOSTRAL provides a large number of Southern Ocean observations for global climatologies and analyzing ocean variability. SURVOSTRAL observations are also assimilated into operational ocean models in real time in France (MERCATOR), Australia, Germany and the USA. The related projects are CLIVAR and TOSCA. Data go to ORE-SSS and LEGOS.
