Objective

RETRO cruise: REsponse of TROpical Atlantic surface and intermediate waters to changes in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation. Reconstructing the variations in Atlantic meridian circulation over the last glacial era, the last deglaciation and the Holocene. Our objectives were, more specifically, to (1) reconstruct the vertical temperature and density gradients and their trends over the climate changes in the last 60 thousand years in the tropical Atlantic; (2) analyze the links between climate change at low latitudes and high latitudes through innovative modelling experiments using high quality data generated in part (1). This cruise related to the ESF EuroMARC RETRO (Response of tropical Atlantic surface and intermediate waters to changes in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation) program.
