Objective The MD 165/KERGUEPLAC 3 cruise was made up of the following programmes: KERGUEPLAC / VT 94/OISO-16 / VT 95/DEFLO-HYDRO-A / programme. Survey of sub-Antarctic islands. The national EXTRAPLAC mission programme aiming to draw up the technical file for the claim for legal extension of France's continental shelf, in the framework of Article 76 of the United Nations Convention on Maritime law. Acquisition of seismic and geophysical data required for regional geological and morphological knowledge about the Kerguelen shelf. The KERGUEPLAC-3 cruise was carried out with a joint team from Ifremer-GENAVIR, IFP, CNRS and SHOM and an operational team IPEV. It represented 20 days presence in the area to specify, along major seismic cross sections in the region, the tectonic units and the sedimentary architecture of the outer edge of the Kerguelen shelf and its connection with the abyssal plain. New bathymetric, gravimetric and magnetic data also supplement those acquired during previous cruises. The related programmes are EXTRAPLAC, international programmes: WCRP/CLIVAR, IGBP/SOLAS, IGBP/IMBER and Europe-CARBOOCEAN, National programmes: LEFE/CyBER FlamenCO2, DEFLO-HYDRO.
