Objective | The objective of surveys during the Haliotis Trégor 08 cruise was to pursue the mapping of marine habitats in sectors defined in the frame of the benthic monitoring network (REBENT/Brittany), to supplement the REBENT 10 cruise (RV Thalia, 2006). RV Haliotis, a scientific launch specially adapted to studying shallow coastal waters, made it possible to survey the bathymetric fringe lying between 0 and 20m. The resources deployed (mainly acoustics, underwater video and some sediment sampling) enabled the acquisition of surface morpho-sedimentary data to better appraise the distribution of habitats at the mouth of the Trieux river and around the islands in the Bréhat archipelago. Since it was the first truly official cruise by RV Haliotis, it also provided the opportunity to work with the crew to refine the best strategy for mapping very shallow seabeds in the sector which has scattered islands and islets and is swept by strong currents. This falls under the REBENT project. |
