Objective | This is part of the general international PIRATA programme. It was the 18th French cruise of the same type, (whence FR18), called P13-08-ANR in the PMEL/NOAA nomenclature. The previous PIRATA-FR16 cruise which was performed in May-July 2007 in association with EGEE 5 - FR17, made it possible to replace the 5 buoys located in the Gulf of Guinea and retrieve the buoy the South-East 6S-8E extension. The FR18 cruise will enable work on the first buoy at 0°-0° during the first leg. For the second leg, work was done on 3 buoys on the line 10°W to 10°S, 6°S and the Equator. The buoy at 23W-0° will be replaced by an American team during the chartering RV Antéa in late October. The related projects are ORE PIRATA - AMMA EGEE. |
