Objective	The aim of the BIOMEDE programme is to study the deep Benthos of the Mediterranean and its correlations with the granulometric, physical and chemical characteristics of the sediments. The pollution gradients of the deep sediments and more particularly of the interstitial water have been searched for. The BIOMEDE II mission concerned the area between the Balearic Islands and Sardinia.
