Objective | The main objectives were to: 1) Estimate an abundance indicator for juvenile anchovies and other small pelagic fish in the southern part of the Bay of Biscay. 2) Map the spatial distribution of these populations in the mission's study zone. 3) Study the spatial distribution of sardine and anchovy eggs using the CUFES system. 4) Take biological samples of species caught, particularly for anchovies study stomach contents to characterize food and otoliths to study daily growth. 5) Continuously sample additional variables (temperature, salinity and fluorescence). 6) Study the hydrological and planktonic conditions in the exploration zone, to define the physical and biological processes and mechanisms involved in the regulation of target populations. 7) Observe - map and estimate abundance, top predators (cetaceans and seabirds). Additional objectives: 8) Test the performance of the ME70 multibeam echosounder and its compatibility with the ER60 multifrequency echosounder. 9) Use a portable echosounder (from tender) to detect juvenile anchovies which are close to the surface. |
