Objective | The coastal benthic biocenoses monitoring network's strategy, defined in the REBENT programme and applied to the coast of Brittany, planned to set up long-term monitoring of biodiversity in some high priority biocenoses. The REBENT17 cruise had two purposes: (1) to define the precise location of some infralittoral biocenoses in soft substrates and their surrounding environment in a new sector of the network (Morlaix bay) and to complement and finalize the formerly studied sites (Brest Bay, Abers inlets); and (2) provide a response for a new REBENT-related action for spatial monitoring of maerl beds in the frame of the WFD. The sites are mainly in northern Brittany (Douarnenez, Molène, Paimpol, Rohein, Fréhel, Saint-Malo), and were explored with RV Thalia. Exploration of shallow waters has begun with RV Haliotis (Molène). Facilities deployed (mainly acoustics, sediment sampling and submarine video) provided morpho-sedimentary surface data to better assess possible issues of heterogeneity in the habitat distribution. This falls under the REBENT project. The geographic boundaries of the various study zones were as follows: Brest bay: North: 48°18'N South: 48°24' N/ West: 4°38' W / East: 4°24'W - Molène: North: 48°25' N/ South: 48°22' N/ West: 4°53' W / East: 4°48'W - Douarnenez North: 48°10'N South: 48°14' N/ West: 4°29' W / East: 4°20'W - The Abers inlets: North: 48°41' N/ South: 48°35' N/ West: 4°47' W / East: 4°33'W - Morlaix: North: 48°47' N/ South: 48°41' N/ West: 3°59' W / East: 3°47'W - Paimpol: North: 48°50'N South: 48°45' N/ West: 2°56' W / East: 2°47'W - St Brieuc/Fréhel: North: 48°44' N/ South: 48°36' N/ West: 2°39' W / East: 1°58'W . |
