Objective | The NURSE 2008 mission's aim was to collect fish (beam trawl)and benthic macrofauna (quantitative grab sampler and beam trawl) to monitor and understand how the nurseries function in late summer. More specifically, it will: - Contribute to drawing up relevant quality or functionality indicators for the Bay's nursery; - Define the trophic structure of the benthic-demersal community of the Bay of Vilaine by studying the coupling of benthos / benthic-demersal fish; - Help validate the statistical models which can assess thresholds of detectability for species which are rare or hard to observe; Compare two types of beam trawl (CP3 and String) and three types of grabs (weighted Van Veen, unweighted Van Veen and Smith-McIntyre). This cruise falls under two complementary Ifremer programmes, i.e. DEMOSTEM (Theme IV) and DYSCO (Theme II). However, it is identified within the AIG project (integrated action: Bay of Biscay study site) of the DEMOSTEM programme. The cruise will also contribute to other projects and actions with complementary themes, i.e. the STRADA project in DEMOSTEM and the FIS-cruises project in SIDEPECHE (Theme IV). |
