Objectif Campagne d'hydrologie et de géochimie, ADCP, PROVOR, XBT, SVP-B, VMP. Depuis 2002, nous répétons tous les deux ans une section hydrologique d'une centaine de stations entre le Portugal et l'extrémité sud du Groenland afin de déterminer les fluctuations à basse fréquence de la cellule méridienne de circulation océanique, du transport de chaleur et de traceurs, et des caractéristiques des masses d'eau. Les sections de 2002, 2004 et 2006 montrent déjà une forte variabilité de ces propriétés qui vient d'être complétée par la section de 2008. Les observations relevées en 2008 comprenaient : des mesures de température et de conductivité avec une sonde CTDO2 (108 stations), des mesures de courant à l'aide de courantomètres acoustiques Doppler (VM-ADCP en route + 108 stations L-ADCP), des mesures de microstructure permettant de quantifier le mélange des masses d'eau (30 stations), la détermination de la teneur en sels nutritifs et traceurs anthropiques (CFCs, CCl4, carbone anthropique), la détermination du pH, pCO2 et de l'alcalinité. D'autre part, ont été également mis à l'eau : 18 flotteurs (programme international ARGO) dérivant vers 1000 m de profondeur avec les courants et fournissant tous les 10 jours un profil de température et de salinité de 2000 m à la surface, dont 2 flotteurs équipés de capteurs d'oxygène (PROVOR-DO) et 2 flotteurs équipés de capteurs bio-optiques (PROVBIO A & B) ; 8 bouées dérivantes qui fournissent des observations de température de surface de la mer et de pression atmosphérique au réseau mondial d'observations météorologiques (dont 3 déployées sur le transit retour) ; 3 bouées température-salinité destinées à faciliter la calibration du satellite SMOS mesurant entre autres la salinité de surface des océans (2 metocéan, 1 Pacific Gyre) ; 1 bouée avec chaîne de thermistance (Marlin-Yug) ; 53 sondes perdables de température (XBT T7) sur le transit retour. Le projet de rattachement est OVIDE.
