Objective

The Gyrafor-B cruise aimed to collect phytoplankton and calcareous zooplankton in the Indian Ocean's subtropical gyre and constrain the environmental parameters of the waters where these organisms live. The main two groups studied were planktonic foraminifera and coccolithophorids. The sampling strategy was based on hauls with stratified plankton nets to collect the foraminifera and rosette-mounted bottles to collect the coccolithophorids. This cruise provided a sufficient amount of material at each station to characterize the genetic, morphological and geochemical diversity of cryptic planktonic foraminifer species and their ecology. This falls under the ANR young research scientists project PALEO-CTD.
