Objectif Le programme général est le programme international PIRATA. Il s'agit ici de la 16ème campagne française du même type (d'où le nom FR16). La précédente campagne PIRATA FR15 avait été réalisée en mai-juillet 2006, associée à la campagne EGEE 3. FR15 a permis d'effectuer le remplacement des 4 bouées situées dans le Golfe de Guinée et de déployer la bouée de l'extension Sud-Est (6°S-8°E), ainsi que des travaux de validation dans le cadre d'EGEE et de CORIOLIS (largage de bouées dérivantes SVP, PROVOR, et de sondes XBT et XCTD, en plus des enregistrements des courants, de température et de salinité de surface avec les instruments VM-ADCP et Thermosalinographe du bord). La campagne FR16 va permettre d'intervenir sur les bouées situées à 23°W et 10°W le long de l'équateur. En effet, les autres bouées ATLAS du programme PIRATA situées dans le Golfe de Guinée seront remplacées pendant la campagne EGEE 5 (associée à PIRATA FR17) programmée juste après cette campagne PIRATA FR16. Le projet de rattachement est ORE PIRATA - AMMA EGEE.
