Objective | The SOLOMONBOA 33 cruise had the dual objective of (1) completing the description of bathyal fauna biodiversity on the insular margins of the Salomon Islands and (ii) continuing the BOA project to study the origin and functioning of the wood fall or "sunken wood" ecosystem. In this special ecosystem, the BOA project should help us understand (1) how the organic matter of wood is first decomposed, then mobilized in the food web; (2) the origin of organisms which are specifically associated with wood falls, compared to those of other reducing environments in the ocean (hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, whale carcasses, etc.) and (3) the development constraints related to this environment. |
