| Objective | Assessment of chemical contamination in coastal water masses (Ionian Sea, Aegean Sea) using artificial stations of mussels. The MYTILOS 04, 05 and 06 cruises aimed to utilize the RINBIO network methodology around the western Mediterranean in the northern part of the NW Basin. Experiments done in the French Mediterranean since 1996 by IFREMER will be extended to the Mediterranean coasts of the Ionian, Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean Seas on the basis of a standardized protocol. Data from the MYTIMED cruise will supplement that obtained in previous years during the RINBIOC and MYTILOS cruises. In addition, the results will be used to complement the chemical contamination budget drawn up in the framework of the European Water Framework Directive's implementation. The cruise was based on one main undertaking: Retrieving 51 artificial stations with mussels on the shoreline of Southern Italy and Greece. This falls under the MEDICIS project. |
