Objective | This was the fourth in a series of annual cruises resulting in a significant number of hake in the Bay of Biscay being tagged. By repeating the tagging operations over several years, not only could we increase the number of tagged fish but also take account of inter-annual variations in growth and of the population's dynamics over time and space. It can also be hoped that inter-annual variations in the temporal-spatial fisheries effort will, by providing increasingly contrasting data, enable assessment models for mortality and movement parameters to be better adjusted. Furthermore, following the feasibility study run in 2006 on DST tagging (surgically implanted electronic tags in the fish's abdominal cavity that continuously log temperature and pressure) we renewed the operation. By the end of the cruise, 144 implanted hake were released. It should be noted that the objectives for the Mercap2 cruise (supplying experimental livestock) were revised, after experiments on hake in a controlled environment (St Anne jetty)ended. This cruise was like an extension of Marq'Age 5. It is related to the DEMOSTEM/SRADA project. |
