Objective | The MALISAR is designed to jointly study, on the northern Ligurian margin, (1) the location, mapping and shape of so-called "active" faults on the continental slope, (2) the location and shape of different types of slips and slides in order to determine past or current unstable zones and assess the potential risk, and (3) the transfer activity taking place within many underwater canyons which cut into the margin and locally contribute to its erosion. The MALISAR2 cruise took place from 31 May to 23 June 2007 aboard R/V Le Suroît in order to perform a detailed study of areas judged to be of interest on the basis of data from MALISAR1. It used a towed acoustic system, an AUV and short Kullenberg cores. This also involved taking supplementary bathymetric and Chirp surveys in areas not covered during MALISAR1. The related project is margins research group GDR Marges, ACI global hazards and changes, ANR "Quantitative Seismic Hazard Assessment", Reliefs of earth. |
