Objective

The ENVAR cruise series, which ENVAR 5 is part of, aimed to perform several observation series along the Var canyon in order to measure environmental parameters and sample canyon fauna over a long enough period to observe turbidity phenomena and their ecological consequences. It was important to coordinate our efforts with other French and European teams who are active in this field (HERMES programme).
