Objective | PYCASO (PY for PenlY, CA for Pays de CAux and SO for the bay of SOmme). In the framework of the ecological monitoring programme of the Penly nuclear electric power plant (Seine Maritime), the benthic domain has been studied in a four-yearly biomorphosedimentary exploration since 1988 (Penly - -1988, Sonpen-1992, Pycaux-1996, Pycaso-2000). This study should highlight any modifications in the sublittoral seabeds around the power plant. Subtidal biomorphosedimentary studies carried out in 1988 and 1992 provided a reliable image of the morphology, sedimentology and biology of the bottom. A similar study conducted in 1996 specified the changes in the seabeds observed in 1992 and made it possible to better determine the distribution of the Lanice conchilega species. It also examined the spoil from dredging off Dieppe and explored westward as far as the Ailly headland. The 2000 cruise was to include: morphosedimentary cover using sidescan sonar and multibeam echosounder on either side of the power plant (between Dieppe and Le Tréport) up to 2 nautical miles offshore; biological and granulometry samples were taken at points chosen on the basis of results from previous studies and the above-mentioned morphosedimentary coverage. The 2000 cruise also had the specificity of extending the morphosedimentary coverage between Le Tréport and the bay of Somme. |
