Objectif

Réaliser un test initial de concept d'observatoire fond de mer, développé dans le cadre du réseau d'excellence ESONET et déterminer les conditions initiales. Déterminer l'influence du cycle sismique et d'autres facteurs (climat, paléo-océanographie) sur les flux de fluides à travers le fond marin. Mesurer les flux de fluides à travers la zone de faille et déterminer les relations entre émissions de fluide au fond de la mer et dans la colonne d'eau et les processus profonds dans la zone sismogène et le manteau. Identifier les zones d'instabilités, déterminer leur activité récente et mesurer les conditions actuelles de pression interstitielle dans les sédiments déstabilisés. Reconnaître dans la séquence sédimentaire les enregistrements récents d'événements sismiques ou tsunamigéniques et les corréler aux enregistrements historiques. Etudier les processus biogéochimiques aux sites d'émission de fluides et évaluer l'influence de ces émissions sur l'environnement en Mer de Marmara. Le projet de rattachement est Esonet-EMSO.

Rappel des objectifs :

(1) repérer systématiquement les sites d'expulsion de fluide par des moyens acoustiques;
(2) utiliser le Nautile comme engin d'exploration afin de préciser les relations entre failles actives et sorties de fluide;
(3) échantillonner ces fluides afin de déterminer leur nature et leur provenance;
(4) installer des instruments pour la surveillance de trois sites d'expulsion pendant plusieurs mois, en parallèle avec la surveillance de la microsismicité;
(5) échantillonner les encroûtements carbonatés, témoins de l'activité d'expulsion de fluide passée;
(6) évaluer l'impact des expulsions de fluide sur l'activité biologique et microbiologique actuelle, au fond et dans la colonne d'eau;
(7) échantillonner par carottage les dépôts liés aux derniers séismes.
