Objectif

Comprendre la structure profonde de la zone de subduction de Sumatra, siège du séisme du 26/12/2004. Le projet de rattachement est 'ACI Risque Sismique'.

Plusieurs questions peuvent être abordées en utilisant la sismique grand-angle et multi-trace :

  • Quelle est la géométrie (surtout le pendage) de la plaque plongeante ?
  • Quelle sont l'épaisseur et la nature de la croûte de la plaque supérieure ?
  • Y-a-t-il une serpentinisation du coin mantellique (sous la plaque supérieure) par les fluides ?
  • Peut-on poursuivre le décollement (le plan de faille) en profondeur jusqu'à la zone sismogène ?
  • Le style de déformation varie-t-il le long la zone du plan de faille en profondeur ? (Par exemple y-a-t-il des aspérités sur la plaque plongeante qui pourraient provoquer des failles hors séquence dans le prisme d'accrétion ?)
  • Y-a-t-il des variations importantes le long de la marge sur la plaque plongeante (épaisseur sédimentaire à la fosse, épaisseur crustale, ride ou zone de fracture enfouis) qui pourraient marquer des terminaisons latérales de faille (segmentation de la marge) ?
