Objective | The focus here is on climate signal pathways taken by the South Pacific Ocean. The Secalis cruises were devoted to studying water masses feeding into the Coral Sea and particularly the especially intense stream currents produced by interaction between the large scale South Equatorial current and the topographic events of the Fiji Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. The secondary objective was to deploy a SPRAY glider" loaned by the Scripps Institution in order to sample the Salomon/New Caledonia section. These cruises fall under the international 'SPICE' (South PacIfic Climate Experiment) project; http://www.ird.nc/UR65/SPICE/ devoted to studying Southwest Pacific circulation in the framework of the CLIVAR program. It falls under the SPICE-France (http://www.ird.nc/UR65/SPICE/LEFE-IDAO-Gourdeau.pdf) project. |
