Objective | PECOS contributes to analyzing, understanding and forecasting the state of coastal fisheries resources of the Bay of Biscay by carrying out a diagnosis of the composition of fisheries populations on a scale of a quarter of a century (from the late 1970s "ancient period" to the first decade of the 21st century "current period"). An expert appraisal (under the "sabliers" sand-dredger contract) was part of the cruise. This is an updating of the status of benthic fisheries resources in the immediate surroundings of the Pilier and Charpentier sand extraction sites (outer Loire estuary). The 2006 cruise was to provide that third and final series of scientific fisheries targeting two coastal sectors: Mor Braz (bays of Quiberon and Vilaine) and Pertuis d'Antioche. The study was supported by a grant from the Pays de la Loire regional council. During the year of 2006, it would provide elements to help interpret the observed changes in resources and being the analysis of the hypotheses mentioned above, aiming for project completion by the end of 2006. The related projects are 'DEMOSTEM-STRADA-PECOS (D0220719)'. |
