Objective

Multidisciplinary study of the Rhone river's impact in the Gulf of Lion, in the framework of the seaward transfer dynamics and biogeochemical transformations of material from land during the transfer. Focusing on freshening structures which are distinct from the plume itself and influence the development of marine biological matter. The objectives were to study the transfer of freshening waters moving seaward by monitoring of drifter floats, understand biogeochemical processes in dilution structures and the influence of sunlight on them. Identification of the processes by which dissolved trace metals from human activity carried by the river was also addressed. This falls under the PNEC North-western Mediterranean worksite project.
