Objective | The FOREVER (formation and evolution of the volcanic edifice of Reunion island) addresses a scientific issue which is twofold: the first involves the role played by the lithosphere in surface volcanism's expression and the second is a contribution to studying the phenomenon of flank destabilization and its related hazards. Reunion Island's volcanic edifice was the target. In the long term, the aim is to understand how volcanism is established in the intra-plate domain with respect to mantle dynamics, pre-existing structures of the lithosphere and on a smaller scale, how the edifice itself evolves. The survey fell under the themes of the national DyETI (on the dynamics and evolution of the inner earth) and the Reliefs programs. An extra day was granted under the EXTRAPLAC (for "reasoned extension of the continental shelf") program to make additional profiles in order to meet the program's objectives in the Reunion Island area. |
