Objective	Estimation of the abundance of small pelagic fish, with special focus on anchovy juveniles, in the southern part of the Bay of Biscay. Mapping the the distribution of these populations. Study of the distribution of anchovy and sardine eggs. Biological samples from species of interest (e.g.). Particularly for anchovies, analysis of stomach contents for the characterization of the food regime and of otholiths for the study of daily growth rates. Continuous sampling of additional variables for the characterization of the ambient environment. Study of the hydrographic conditions and distribution of plankton components in order to define the physical and biological processes which are relevant for the regulation of the species of interest

Summary of measurements

-Acoustics: On the first leg of the mission (22/09-08/10) the acoustic exploration was carried out by day (between 06 & 18 GMT) on a grid with transects covering the shelf and slope (from 30 to >2,000m isobaths), at 12 NM invervals.
On the first leg of the mission, a total of 1,406 nautical miles were covered, 804 over radials. On the second leg, the acoustic exploration was carried out 24 hours a day, covering 1,164 NM.
-Trawls: We used a pelagic trawl (76/72) and occasionally a small pelagic trawl (57/52). A total of 60 hauls were made during the whole survey.
-Hydrology and plankton: The hydrographic stations were located over inter-spaced acoustic transects, with 5 hydrographic stations on each hydrographic transect.
A total of 100 vertical salinity, temperature and fluorescence profiles were performed along 20 transects. Plankton samples were also taken by means of different plankton nets (WP2, Calvet and multinet).
-Continuous egg sampling. A total of 370 CUFES samples were obtained, with a sample every 3 NM.
