Summary of measurements |
- -Trials to catch live hake with a different trawl than that used in the spring survey: the 4FF trawl.
-The 4FF trawl is easier to deploy than the MERMED one and its vertical opening (6 m) is between that of the MERMED trawl (10 m) and the GOC72 (3 m), which makes it the most interesting of the three. -Ascending speed test: A speed of 0.4 knots while rising was tested, with a variation of 20% observed. -Capturing live hake: Out of the 464 hake caught, only 6 died during the capture. -Some hake showed some weakness and later mortalities took place in the tanks, of about 25 % (great variation in temperature from the bottom to the surface (22 to 25°) at this time of year). -External and internal tagging of 310 live hake out of the 464 captured. -In spring, only those fish measuring 15 cm or more were tagged. It was tried this time on individuals as small as 14 cm, with smaller external tags than those previously available. -Live fish were put back into the water using a fish lift: Out of the 310 tagged hake, 263 were released. The lower part of the lift had been strengthened and it worked very well.
