Objectif

L'expérience SISMOMAR avait pour but de déterminer la structure sismique à l'échelle du segment de Lucky Strike en utilisant sismique réfraction 2D et 3D (tomographie) avec OBSs, et sismique réflexion 2D et 3D avec une flûte longue multi traces. Les résultats escomptés étaient d'une part de mieux comprendre la dynamique et de quantifier la présence des magmas et des fluides hydrothermaux à l'échelle du segment et du site hydrothermal, et d'autre part de préparer de futures expériences sur la même cible, comme l'installation de capteurs géophysiques, géodésiques et physico-chimiques, ou le forage des zones profondes du système hydrothermal. Il n'y avait eu auparavant qu'une expérience sur la dorsale Atlantique qui, par le nombre d'OBSs et la couverture, puisse être comparée au projet SISMOMAR (campagne « MARBE » ; Canales et al., 2000a; Hooft et al., 2000; Magde et al., 2000 ; Hosford et al., 2001).
