Objective | With reference to the RH-ESIH (sensitive ecosystems of interest for fisheries), PNEC-HANOUR (nursery habitats), LITEAU (location and health status of nurseries + fisheries and aquaculture in the Pertuis area) and ECTOPHY (oil spill impact), this cruise had three categories of objectives: -Inventory, typology and mapping of nurseries and their habitats; - Biological quality of juveniles as related to the environment (hydro-climate) and uses (measuring impacts); and - Drawing up annual abundance indices for the main species, especially sole. The NURSE 2000 cruise priorities were to identify the outer limits of the sole nurseries and their possible relationship with the hydrological structure, to compare the quality of juveniles in each nursery and any possible effect of the Erika spill's pollution. The actions to be performed concerned the "habitat": hydrology and other abiotic conditions - "population": examining the fish community and associated benthos, and - "sole growth": biometrics, condition factor, and taking otolith samples. - "Sole RNA": samples were taken for RNA/DNA titration - "Metals in sole": samples taken for heavy metal titration - "PAH in sole": samples taken to determine contamination and hydrocarbon biomarkers. The teams involved in the project were RH-ECOHAL, RH-LASAA and DEL-PC. This fell under the French coastal ecology programme PNEC and the Bay of Biscay study. The protocol was designed to meet several aims of the integrated action, for which analyses and further use will be made in the laboratories taking part in the HANOUR project and in ERIKA monitoring. |
