Objective | The general objective is to study the ocean's responses to changes in the environment induced by human activity. This mainly involved observing and predicting changes in a biogeochemical cycle of carbon and its associated elements in order to determine the ocean's response to the increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations in the atmosphere and to other sensitive elements like some trace metals. Means used: Carrying out time series of monthly monitoring of hydrological and biogeochemical variables on an observation site (DYFAMED). This falls under the INSU's DYFAMED observation service project, with J.C. MARTY as scientific director. The INSU observation service current federates three laboratories to take monthly field measurements. They are the LPCM and LOBEPM of the oceanological observatory of Villefranche and the marine environment laboratory of the AIEA in Monaco. The site is located in the central part of the Ligurian Sea. The reference point is located at 123 of Cap Ferrat, 28 nautical miles away from this headland (i.e., precisely at 43°25,400'N and 07°51,800' E). A study zone was defined with the maritime prefecture of Toulon for all the studies: monthly series, moorings, buoys with instruments. The cruise took place as 11 sea outings lasting 3 days per month on average. Days at sea were: 30/01, from 21/02 to 22/02, from 28/03 to 01/04, 14/04, from 24/05 to 26/05, from 16/06 to 17/06, from 17/07 to 21/07, 01/09, from 22/09 to 23/09, from 16/10 to 18/10, 09/11, and from 05/12 to 07/12. |
