Objective | The DISPRO cruises enabled the validation of nearfield dispersion models by checking how representative simulated currents were in terms of direction and velocity and by adjusting the short and long term (from an hour to a week) dispersion parameters. Tritium is used as a tracer for an occasion discharge with known characteristics, in an area with intense hydrodynamic conditions (Raz Blanchard off the Cotentin peninsula, with currents reaching 5 m/s), taking a large number of measurements (several thousand) in the discharge plume. These surveys are carried out in close association with the validation of a specific hydrodynamic instantaneous current model for this zone developed by IFREMER/DEL/AO (mesh size 100 meters). |
