Objective | Study on control of primary production and carbon export in deep water by heterotrophic organisms and by pulsed disturbances: (1) factors controlling autumn phytoplankton blooms (availability of nutrients and grazing by zooplankton), (2) influence of the structural and functional diversity of the heterotrophic network (bacteria, zooplankton) on the deep water export flux, (3) impacts of occasional physical forcings, such as gales, on the biological system's dynamics, and (4) effect of seasonal transition on the longer term developments of the ecosystem. The related program was PROOF (biogeochemical processes and fluxes in the ocean). The area studied was the DYFAMED zone of the INSU observation service. The following dates were days at sea: from 13/09/2004 to 17/09/2004 and 20/10/2004 to 24/10/2004. |
