Objective In the framework of the ecological monitoring program of the Penly nuclear electric power plant (Seine Maritime), the benthic domain has been studied in a four-yearly biomorphosedimentary exploration since 1988 (Penly - 1988, Sonpen-1992, Pycaux-1996, Pycaso-2000). This study should enable any modifications to be highlighted on the sub-coastal sea beds around the plant. The 2004 cruise aboard Thalia will make it possible to draw up seafloor cartography on the basis of sidescan sonar logs and sediment samples taken with the Van Veen grab, and to note the changes since 2000. Analysis of fauna samples taken with a Hamon grab will provide indications about the benthic communities and their developments. Extending sonar recordings from Criel to the Bay of Somme should be attempted in order to complement the knowledge about sediments in the sector. This falls under the IGA (impact of major developments) project.
