Objective The objective of this cruise is to catch hake to be used in the framework of the 'Hake food chain' project of the Integrated Mediterranean program (PIM) and the national coastal ecology program (PNEC). The biological analyses carried out during this survey will define the diet of hake and provide knowledge of its level of chemical contamination. Live individuals will be placed in experimental tanks for biological experiments. The catches will take place on the continental shelf of the Gulf of Lion at several depths using a four-seam bottom trawl (MERMED trawl) with a horizontal separating layer and two bags or codends, tested during the TECPEC II/2 cruise in October 2003, and of a live fish well at the stern for capture of live hake. The survey was divided into 3 zones: 1) Zone 1: 43 deg 24.000N - 04 deg 13.000E / 43 deg 18.000N - 04 deg 59.000E/ 43 deg 16.000N - 04 deg 06.000E / 43 deg 10.000N - 04 deg 52.000E; 2) Zone 2 : 43 deg 21,000N - 04 deg 43.000E / 43 deg 19,000N - 04 deg 48.000E/ 43 deg 16.000N - 04 deg 06.000E / 43 deg 10.000N - 04 deg 29.000E; and 3) Zone 3 : 43 deg 10.000N - 03 deg 52.000E / 43 deg 01.000 N - 04 deg 13.000E / 42 deg 59.000N - 03 deg 24.000E / 42 deg 51.000N 03 deg 49.000E.
