Objective The survey falls under the framework of the French EXTRAPLAC program, managed by IFREMER and in which the IFP, SHOM and IPEV take part. The NOUCAPLAC/1 survey's objectives are the same as the EXTRAPLAC program's: supply the required data and interpretations for continental shelf extension claims to the United Nations special commission. The main information sought is: the nature and continuity of deep structures and determining the foot of the slope in the southeast sector of New Caledonia, where the legal continental shelf could potentially be extended.
