Objective	Building up time series of abundance indices for the main demersal and benthic species in the Celtic Sea and the Bay of Biscay. Measuring inter-annual changes in their recruitment. Mapping spatial distributions of the species and their inter-annual variations, as well as looking for the origin of this variability (biotic and/or abiotic parameters, fisheries impact). Intercalibration of R/Vs Thalassa/Celtic Voyager (IRL) in the framework of the EEC IPROSTS project. The related project is called Assessment of EC-managed fisheries and non-EC fisheries, Fishery ecosystems and the Fishery information system. The cruise covered the following geographic zones: Bay of Biscay, Bristol Channel, Irish Sea and Saint George's Channel.

Summary of measurements

-149 standardized 30 min daytime bottom trawlings (5 of them not valid) with the GOV 36/47 high opening trawl, in 22 geographic-bathymetric strata on seabeds 15 to 600 m deep.
-With each trawl haul, the determination, weighing and measurement of each species fished was performed, sex determination for the main commercial species and hard tissue samples taken (otoliths and illicia).
-At each trawl haul, biological parameters were acquired for EU-managed species: hake, whiting, cod, angler, megrim and sole (RH/Lorient, box, Nantes).
-2 deep water night-time trawl hauls (700 and 800 m) to collect and photograph specimens (RH/box and Nantes).
-127 vertical temperature and salinity profiles taken using the Seabird 19 CTD (RH/Lorient and ECOHAL/Nantes).
-123 tissue samples were taken to analyze the heavy metal concentrations in selachians (University of Liège).
-85 fish were collected for morphological studies (University of Liège).
-229 tissue samples were taken to analyze the heavy metal concentrations in various fish (University of Liège).
