Objective | Multidisciplinary cruise for the national POMME programme for physics, biology and geochemistry. Moorings and floats were deployed to monitor the area. Combined array to evaluate baseline conditions. The thermal structure and salinity were studied, along with carbon, oxygen and nutrient budgets and bacterial activity. Real-time data collection and transmission exercise for analysis and integration. Preparations for operational oceanography. The related project was POMME. About Total organic carbon: The TOC was determined on board using a Shimadzu TOC 5000 carbon analyzer connected to an IR detector (Licor Li-6262), combined with a Licor Li-670 flow control unit, an acquisition device and Azur integration software from Thermoquest. The apparatus was calibrated with potassium phthalate diluted in ultrapure milliQ water (the system was recently purchased by INSU for use in biogeochemical surveys at sea). The analysis quality was checked using international standards (water from the deep Sargasso Sea and ultrapure water) supplied by Denis Hansell (BBSR, Bermuda, USA). |
