Objective The DISPRO cruises enabled the validation of near-field dispersion models by checking how representative simulated currents were in terms of direction and velocity and by adjusting the short and medium term (from an hour to a week) dispersion parameters. Tritium is used as a tracer for an occasion discharge with known characteristics, in an area with intense hydrodynamic conditions (in the Raz Blanchard race off the Cotentin peninsula, with currents reaching 5 m/s), taking a large number of measurements (several thousand) in the discharge plume. These surveys are carried out in close association with the validation of a specific hydrodynamic instantaneous current model for this zone developed by IFREMER/DEL/AO (mesh size 100 meters).
