Objective | Multibeam echosounder mapping of slopes around the raised atoll of Walpole and the Banc de l'Orne (New Caledonia). Determining the major fractures extending seaward around this atoll and shoal. Etablishing the relationships between fracturing and distribution of megaporosity which can be observed on the emerged cliffs of Walpole island. Note the marks of former sea levels (underwater platforms and notches), and establish their succession on slopes and the link with what is found on land. Dredge sampling of the underwater platforms identified. On the return trip, landing part of the team on the Isle of Pines to take core samples of coral. The cruise went very well. It should be noted that the calm weather with no wind on the first day upon our arrival on Walpole island, which is exceptional in this area, made it possible to map along the cliffs. This would have been impossible from the next day on. Likewise, the exceptional weather conditions on the first day made it possible to take very clear photographs of all Walpole's cliffs. This falls under the UR IRD 055 Paleotropics program. |
