Objective | Soles use coastal and estuarine nurseries where many juveniles gather due to the favorable conditions for growth. However, these nurseries are areas with many constraints: acute variations in the natural environment combined with many anthropogenic forcings. Amongst them are the changes in the habitat's scope and properties induced by mollusk farms. This was particularly true in the pertuis Charentais area, a nursery of major importance for the Bay of Biscay stock, and in the Marennes Oleron oyster-farming region. How can soles reach the part of the nursery where there are also oyster beds? These questions led to the objective of this cruise: 1) etablishing the means of access and use of the more coastal fringe of the nursery innaccessible to towed gear, 2) determining the role played by tidal conditions on feeding behaviour sole juveniles and 3) specify how parasitism influences their biological performance. The cruise took place in the pertuis charentais sea (pertuis d'Antioche, pertuis Breton and Marennes Oleron basin) aboard the Cote d'Aquitaine vessel, with 2 oyster farming barges as support ships: La Melosira (LCPC) and l'Estran (University of La Rochelle). This falls under the PNEC NOURCEproject, Bay of Biscay worksite. |
