Objective | OISO (Ocean Indien Service d'Observation) was an INSU-approved observation service formed by 3 IPSL (Institut Pierre Simon Laplace) laboratories: LBCM, LODYC and LSCE. The programme aims to study the variability over time and space of the oceanic CO2 cycle, the related air-sea exchanges of CO2 in the subtropical, subantarctic and southern zones, as well as detecting anthropogenic CO2 in the ocean and analyzing its ten-year trends. All these cruises (2 per year, one in the southern summer, the other in winter) are scheduled in the corresponding Southwest Indian and Antarctic sector, following the repeated trips made by the Marion-Dufresne (inter-island logistics). During some cruises, the long logistical stopover at Kerguelen was used for 5 days of observations in the southern ocean. Internationally speaking, especially in terms of knowledge about CO2 air-sea flow on a global scale and anthropogenic CO2 inventories, OISO observations complement the measurements taken in other ocean sectors (Pacific, Atlantic, Southeast Indian ocean) by foreign partners (Australia, Japan, UK, USA, etc.). The related international programmes are: IGBP/JGOFS, WCRP/CLIVAR, IGBP/SOLAS and Europe/NOCES. The related French programmes are: PROOF, PNEDC, PATOM and GDR-GEOGAA. The following people took part in this survey: OISO -9 Christian Brunet (LBCM/IPSL, Paris), Charles Deltel (LODYC/IPSL, Paris), Jerome Guigand (LBCM/IPSL, Paris), Marie-Pierre Moine (LSCE/IPSL, Gif) Sylvain Morvan (IPSL, Paris). * LBCM: marine biochemistry and chemistry laboratory,* LODYC: laboratory of dynamic oceanography and climatology, *LSCE: climate and environmental sciences laboratory,* IPSL: Institut Pierre Simon Laplace. |
