Objective | The MD128 - SWAF (South West African) cruise had the following objectives: Core sampling of marine sediments on ocean margins and basins bordering southern Africa (Mozambique and South Africa). Studying surface (Agulhas current) and bottom (North Atlantic and Antarctic bottom water) paleocirculation over the past million years. Relationships with global climate trends. The related programmes are MOZAVITE (PI: A. Mazaud - LSCE, Gif-sur-Yvette), AGULHAS (PI: R. Zahn - ICREA, Barcelona), TOPASE (P. Bertrand - Univ. Bordeaux I). The mission area includes the Mozambique canal, the Southwest Indian Ocean and the Southeast Atlantic Ocean. |
