Objective The scientific aims of the MD 127/PAGE (Atlantic paleoceanography and geochemistry) were to obtain ultra-high resolution paleoceanographic reconstructions (secular scale) in environments which represent scientifically innovative, but still poorly known, key areas like varve sediments in the Mississippi delta and the Orca basin in the Gulf of Mexico. These zones feature high accumulation rates which provide a decadal resolution of phenomena, particularly the Mississippi megaflood episodes and relations between phenomena at high latitudes (Laurentide ice sheet trends) and hydrological conditions in tropical - subtropical areas (Gulf of Mexico). This falls under the PAGE MD127 / GEOSCIENCES MARINE IFREMER project.
