Objective

TotalFinaElf and Ifremer worked together on the "Dakhla" scientific research project aiming to study the deep structure of the continental margin located off western Africa (between Nouadhibou and Dakhla), using deep penetration seismic methods. These include low frequency vertical seismic reflection as well as wide angle seismic reflection and refraction using stand-alone Ocean Bottom Seismometers. The project was based on a seismic survey by two vessels: R/V Nadir, to deploy Ifremer's heavy seismic reflection equipment (boomer source and 4.5 km streamer); and R/V Le Suroit to deploy the OBS, as well as a part on land (recording R/V Nadir's shot on land stations).
