Objective The objective of the PELGAS cruise was to monitor distribution and abundance of pelagic species fished in the Bay of Biscay. Carrying on from previous cruises (PEL 2000 and 2001), this survey assessed anchovy and sardine biomasses in the Bay of Biscay by simultaneously applied two complementary methods: adult population abundance assessment using acoustics and study of spawn distribution by egg sampling.
