Objectif Chaque campagne PIRATA dure environ 15 jours. Durant ces campagnes on procède non seulement au mouillage et/ou au relevage/maintenance (au bout d'un an) des systèmes ATLAS, mais aussi a des radiales CTD (0-1000 m) et a des enregistrements en continu des courants (ADCP) ainsi que la température et salinité de surface avec un thermosalinographe de coque (T/S). Lors de cette campagne, 2 mouillages courantométriques mis à l'eau lors de Pirata-FR10 en décembre 2001 sont relevés et les données seront traitées en 2003 au Lodyc (Christine Provost/ Annie Kartavtseff). Par l'assimilation des données PIRATA dans les modèles numériques de circulation de l'océan et de l'atmosphère nous devrions être en mesure de mieux comprendre et simuler les variabilités de type saisonnier à interannuel de la climatologie de l'Atlantique tropical. Ceci devrait permettre une avancée notable dans la réalisation de prédictions climatiques à moyennes échelles sur toute la region, notamment en ce qui concerne les régimes de précipitations sur les zones du Nordeste du Brésil et de l'Afrique de l'Ouest.
