Objectif

Les objectifs du projet BLASON sont :

  • l'étude de l'enregistrement des variations récentes du niveau marin de la Mer Noire au cours du Quaternaire en relation avec le climat,
  • le glacio/eustatisme et la néotectonique et de leur effet sur l'organisation des dépôts de corps sableux sur la plate-forme,
  • la pente et l'éventail profond du Danube.

Plus précisement, la campagne BLASON 2 permettra d'apporter des informations pour la compréhension (1) des effets sur les modifications des apports en eau, en sédiment et en matière organique, liées aux changements du régime climatique en Eurasie (évolution des calottes glaciaires), aux modifications des échanges avec la Mediterranée au cours des cycles glaciaires/interglaciaires (en particulier du fait du rôle de seuil joue par le détroit du Bosphore) et à la néotectonique; (2) de comparer les conditions de la sédimentation et de l'organisation des séquences de dépôt dans cette mer confinée avec celles qui prévalent dans les mers toujours reliées à l'océan global.
L'hypothèse émise récemment d'un évènement catastrophique provoquant une ouverture brutale du Bosphore et une remontée du niveau marin d'environ 150 mètres vers 7500 ans B.P. ajoute un intérêt supplémentaire, et historique, au projet. Les techniques utilisées comprenaient d'une part la géophysique très haute résolution, la bathymétrie multifaisceaux et l'imagerie acoustique, d'autre part le prélèvement de carottes sédimentaires qui feront l'objet d'analyses sédimentologiques, bio-stratigraphiques, géochimiques magnétiques et géotechniques.
