Objective | Obtaining very long core samples for palaeographic and paleoclimatic reconstitutions in the south of the Indonesian archipelago. This involves retracing the changes in the monsoon, as well as ocean circulation modifications in the past (during the last n*100,000 years). We took 5 cores on 4 sites at various depths (between 1,000 and 2,500 metres). This work is part of the international IMAGES programme. IN addition, taking advantage of the fact that the mission's main work concerned a hydrology programme (MD 119/TIP 2000) managed by the LODYC, we took water samples during the CTD casts on each coring site and during the hydrological 8 stations. This was done to calibrate the alkenone measurements on recently-taken samples. A few plankton net hauls were also made at the coring sites, simply for later measurement of Mg/Ca in plankton foraminifera. The coring was done in collaboration, with the following representatives of teams: 1/ c/o Patrick DE DECKKER: Dept of geology, The Australian National University Canberra ACT 0200 (Patrick.DeDeckker@anu.edu.au) 2/ c/o KAWAHATA Hodaka: Geological Survey of Japan, Tsukuba-Higashi, Ibaraki 305-8567 Japan (kawahata@gsj.go.jp). The specific geographic boundaries for coring were: North: 12°15'N - South: 22°05 S, West: 112°42'E - East: 114°43 E. The specific geographic boundaries for water samples were: North: 10°40 S, South: 22°08 S, West: 110°49'E - East: 117°05 E. |
