Objective | OISO (Indian Ocean observation service) is an INSU-labelled observation service that federates 3 laboratories from the IPSL (Pierre Simon Laplace Institute): LPCM, LODYC and LSCE. The programme aimed to study the spatial and temporal variability of the oceanic CO2 cycle and the associated air-sea exchanges in subtropical, sub-Antarctic and austral zones, as well as the detection of CO2 from human activities in the ocean. All cruises (2/year, one during the austral summer and the other during winter) are scheduled in the corresponding South-West Indian and Antarctic sector, by following the regular routes taken by R/V Marion-Dufresne. To supplement the studies on the ocean CO2 cycle, the OISO-4 cruise added a genetic and morphological study of plankton foraminifera, a study on photosynthetic pigment distribution, an intercomparison study on autonomous CO2 measurements and the deployment of a Carioca float. The NIVMER (sea level measurement) programme of the LEGOS lab was also associated with this cruise. The cruise fell under the international IGBP/JGOFS, WCRP/CLIVAR, IGBP/SOLAS programmes, and the national PROOF/FRAISE, PROOF/ocean colour, PROOF/Geb&Co and PNEDC/CLIVAR-austral programmes. |
